Akraberg Lighthouse Lodge – Vitastova in Faroese – was built in 1909 to house the Lighthouse Master and his family at the southernmost point of the Faroe Islands. It stands beside the still-operational Akraberg Lighthouse, overlooking an almost uninterrupted and ever-changing panorama of ocean and sky. We took over the house in 2021 with a long-held vision: to create a place where guests can truly inhabit this landscape—its light, weather, silence, and scale—rather than merely pass through it. Vitastova is not a conventional retreat or luxury lodge. It offers something quieter and rarer: space, weather, wildlife, history, and depth.

Vitastova is well suited to small groups who seek connection, and shared experience. Artists, musicians, writers, researchers, hikers, photographers, and retreat groups find space here to think, create, and converse.
The house offers communal areas for cooking and gathering, but also quiet spaces for solitude. It encourages a slower rhythm and a more attentive way of being.
Besides spending as much free time as possible in Akraberg, Joost plays the bassoon in a symphony orchestra and Johan works at the University of the Faroe Islands.
